0309 Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia - The island of Borneo

private swap

Borneo is the third-largest island in the world and the largest island of Asia. At the geographic centre of Maritime Southeast Asia, in relation to major Indonesian islands, it is located north of Java, west of Sulawesi, and east of Sumatra.
The island is divided among three countries: Brunei and Malaysia on the north, and Indonesia to the south.
Orangutan is one of the four great apes: in the world, the other three being gorillas, chimpanzees and bonobos. At the same time, it is the only ape that is found in Asia, all the other three are from Africa. Native to Indonesia and Malaysia, orangutans are presently found inhabiting the islands of Borneo and Sumatra only. They can be divided into two separate species, namely the Sumatran orangutan (Pongo abelii) and the Bornean orangutan (Pongo pygmaeus).
