Bulgaria is a country with thousands of years of history, which is evident by the multiple remains of necropolises, antique towns and cities, tombstones, etc. No doubt some of the most interesting proofs of life found on the earth are the multiple golden and silver treasures, found in various parts of Bulgaria. A number of them provoke serious international interest and carry important information about ancient civilizations, which had occupied the present Bulgarian lands.

One third of Bulgaria’s territory is covered by about 40 mountains. Bulgarian mountains are diverse in size, height, topography and biological variety. They are beautiful and available in summer as well as in winter and offer excellent conditions for sport, recreation and hiking.

The Balkan Mountain is the backbone of Bulgaria and the Balkan Peninsula. It stretches its long frame in the middle of the country and divides it into two sections. The highest point of the mountain is mount Botev (2,376 meters), and its most eastern point is cape Emine, where the mountain juts out into the Black Sea.

These male and female folk dancers wear variations of the national costumes on this map card. The man, dressed all in white, wears a vest and a wide red sash. Red and white also feature in the women's costumes, but their colorful aprons provide contrast with a splash of clashing color.

Bulgarian traditional dress can often be seen during traditional festivals: celebrating Carnival or Kukeri.
