0435, 0436 Croatia - Ston

Ston is a village and municipality in the Dubrovnik-Neretva County of Croatia, located at the south of isthmus of the Pelješac peninsula.
The best time to visit Ston is during the annual salt harvest which takes place every July and August. Salt production has been an economic mainstay since the Middle Ages and the saltworks of Ston are among the oldest and best-preserved in Europe. The salt is still harvested by hand and then loaded onto wagons for distribution.
Ston is the town with second largest stone wall!!!
The wall was build from the towns of Ston to Mali Ston. The 5.5 kilometer long wall that links these two small communities was completed in the 15th century, along with its 40 towers and 5 fortresses. It was meant as a second line of defense for the city of Dubrovnik and to protected the precious salt pans that contributed to Dubrovnik’s wealth.

0393, 0394, 0395 Croatia - Island Korcula

Korcula is an island in the Adriatic Sea, in the Dubrovnik-Neretva County of Croatia and 6th largest island in the Adriatic sea.
Marco Polo and Korcula: Marco Polo (1254 - 1324) was a medieval Venetian merchant, though he is more prominent as a world renowned writer and traveller.Together with his father Nicolas and his uncle Maffeo, Marco Polo was amongst the first Europeans to travel the famous Silk Road trade route, stretching from the Middle East to China.
Significantly, Polo is reputed to have been born in Korcula itself, although evidence to support this thesis is at best sketchy.
Notwithstanding, Korcula town still boasts Marko Polo’s alleged house of birth. Despite its rather featureless interior, the houses’ tower (loggia) allows for a panoramic vista of Korcula, stretching from east to west. The house is under the protection of the Korcula Town Hall and it was turned into a Museum of Marco Polo.

0257, 0258 Croatia - Island Brac

Island Brac, the largest island of the central Dalmatian group of islands.
The highest peak of the island, Vidova Gora (Vitus' Mount) (778 m), is also the highest peak of all Croatian islands.
The limestone part of the coast is rocky and steep, while the rest is rather low and sandy.
Bol is one of the best known tourist destinations in Croatia. Bol is just about a hour away by boat from city of Split, which is second biggest Croatian city, well connected with the rest of Europe.
Brac also has it's own airport, enabling you to get to Bol really fast and convinient and spend beautiful holidays.

0220, 0221 Croatia - Island Hvar

Hvar is a Croatian island in the Adriatic Sea, located off the Dalmatian coast, lying between the islands of Brač, Vis and Korčula.
Located on the gorgeous south side of the island, facing the sun and the sea stands so beautiful and proud the magical town of Hvar (is the largest town on the island). The town of Hvar is simply not a provincial and modest little town and that is a fact!!!!! ;)

0205 Croatia

Recognizable all over the world, and related only to Croats - characteristic cube-shaped red-white coat of arms which is believed to originate from the Persian original homeland of Croats. Red signifies south and white signifies north. That is where the name for two Croatias derives from, i.e. White in north and Red in south.
When the Croats have selected Ferdinand Habsburg to be their King in Cetine in 1527, they confirmed that choice with some seals, and one of them was Croatian coat of arms, but with 64 fields, i.e. the complete chess-board. That is where the popular term „šahovnica" derives from, and Šah (chess) in Persian means the Ruler - Tsar.
P.S. I bought this card on holiday in August 2013 in Croatia :)
